The UBC STAR Collaboration Facility is an innovative working space for researchers and entrepreneurs to test their concepts and validate their ideas.

Our Services

3D Printing

The MarkForged Mark Two is a nylon/carbon fibre composite 3D printer with a high resolution able to produce strong parts and an incredibly clean surface finish on prints.

The Pantheon HS3, designed and produced by UBC alumni, offers high-speed, industrial-grade flexible manufacturing. Its incredibly fast cycle times are matched by industry-leading precision and beautiful surface finishes. As a materials omnivore not tied to a particular manufacturer’s supplies, the HS3 is capable of printing in ways stimulating a re-think of what 3D printing is for—need a glow in the dark equipment knob?

The Raise3D Pro3 Plus is a production-quality dual-extruder 3D printer with a user-friendly interface accelerating users’ learning how to get the most out of the machine. This printer also boasts a large build volume capability, making it well-suited to multi-sized rapid prototyping and large-scale production.

The Ultimaker S5 Pro is a high resolution 3D printer with two nozzles in the print head for faster printing. The printer is open source making it an ideal candidate for skunk work projects and 3D twinning opportunities across multiple sectors, governments and even nations.

3D Scanning

The Creaform BLACK Series is a high-end, portable 3D scanner that is top of the line and easy to use. A significant improvement on UBC STAR’s previous 3D scanner, the Black Series can capture higher quality in a fraction of the time, as well as scan surfaces and objects that were previously difficult or impossible.

Augmented Reality

The Microsoft Hololens 2 is worn much like safety glasses, enabling the user to see through the lens to view surroundings, and to see information projected onto the lens itself. From simulating the sudden appearance of fire in the context of firefighter training, to depicting potential changes to built environments affected by disaster, the Hololens is a great tool for simulation and learning.
